St James’ House Youth Murals

In spring-summer 2024, we teamed up with Young & Safe Haven for a transformative mural project commissioned by North East Lincolnshire Council that turned the hoardings around St. James’ House into a beacon of bold creativity. Over several months, young people facing significant life challenges worked alongside visual artist and Unseen Arts co-director Natasha Morley to co-design and paint several large-scale public murals.

More than just an art project, this was about expression, ownership, and joy. From early ideation to that final splash of colour, every decision was led by the young people themselves. We created a safe space for experimentation and dialogue—inviting young people to tell their stories, take up space, and feel seen.

The final pieces are vibrant, rebellious, and unapologetically theirs. It now stands as a symbol of community pride and youth voice in central Grimsby.
